Les Ormes history
1860
Acquired by the Houitte de La Chesnais family
Acquired by the Houitte de La Chesnais family, a family of jurists from Saint-Malo with origins in La Gouesnière. The family spans over six generations, including the current descendants. The family has participated in the reconstruction of the Château, particularly the creation of a new part between the two detached houses.
1977
Creation of the campsite
Yvon Bourges, the then Minister of Defense, unveiled the 60-pitch Castel Camping. The small team welcomed the first campers with 1 bar/reception area, 2 horses, 2 donkeys, 2 pedalos (which had by September), 1 pool, and a lot of elbow grease. The Domaine attracted more and more people thanks to its unique atmosphere, the smiles of its hosts and more facilities and leisure activities. All this is what makes it the most popular destination for tourists in the Northwest of France.
1989
Creation of the golf course
Creation of the 18-hole Golf Course. During the previous Summer, a survey was carried out among the campers: “What new activity would you like to see: a squash court, a second tennis court, or a golf course?” Surprise! The answer was a golf course. Everyone got to work, the fields were cleared, and the course was designed by the architect Mr d’Ormesson. The golf course was inaugurated in 1989 by Pierre Méhaignerie, the then Minister of Agriculture.
1994
Acquisition of the Hotel des Ormes and Terre Rouge
The three-star Hotel opened its 45 rooms, restaurant and pool (inaugurated by Alain Madelin, the then Minister of Industry).
1995
Water park
The weather during the summer of 1994 was catastrophic. Arnaud took the plunge and launched a new initiative that he thought vital for keeping customers interested: the construction of a water park, unique in the West of France.
1998
Creation of the Hotel Residence
A Hotel Residence with 36 studio apartments and apartments was built across from the Hotel.
1999
Purchase of the Domaine de la Ville Huchet
A then 2-star campsite located in Saint Malo. Arnaud spearheaded the construction of a Corsair-themed water Park. Séverine’s husband, Gaël du Jonchay, took over the operation in 2004. The Campsite hada facelift; 3 stars in 2006, 4 stars in 2008, the construction of chalets, new toilet facilities, the indoor water park, etc. After ten years, Ville Huchet took off on its own in 2009, while maintaining a close working relationship with the Domaine des Ormes.
2004
Creation of the first treehouses
Construction of the first treehouse without water or electricity. This was a wedding gift from Arnaud to his sister Sonia. Why not offer it to our guests? Unveiled on Valentine’s Day 2004, this would be referred to as "The Cabin in the Air": a first in France! Our teams work on construction, welcome services, security, cleaning, decoration, and communication. Every year, new treehouses are opened.
2004
Creation of the horse-riding school
Horses have been a family passion for years. Since the opening of the campsite, Summer horseback rides have been a constant offer in the park. In 2004, an Equestrian Centre with an indoor stable and clubhouse opened its doors to make this activity available to local children and adults all-year round. The site is also the scene for show jumping of all levels and disciplines. Today, attended by our team and approximately 90 horses and ponies, our 300 members contribute to the club’s energy.
2007
Creation of the wave pool and the Indoor Water Park
To keep on surprising our residents, a wave pool and an indoor water park were opened to the delight of holidaymakers.
2008
Creation of the wooden cottages
Arnaud and his teams came up with a round, wooden chalet-style cabin with all the amenities available all-year round: the cottages were brought into being a few months later.
2010
Cabins on the water
6 years after the first tree house, the first cabin on the water came to Les Ormes! It is now possible to spend a night adrift on one of the Domaine's ponds.
2015
Creation of the cable water-skiing activity
Always eager for novelties Les Ormes set up a water ski lift on one of the ponds in 2015. Towed by a pulley system, customers can now go water-skiing, wakeboarding or tow-tubing! Thrills and laughter guaranteed.
2019
Construction of the Dome
An ambitious project is born: the construction of a dome for the swimming pool coverage! This new 4500m2 aquatic complex offers the possibility of bathing all year round in tropical heat.
